This paper uses a large content analysis approach to investigate the marine governance study since1990s, based on hundreds of papers in leading journals in English, reviewing its bibliometric distribution, author composition and disciplines allocation firstly, then we focuses on three sub-topics, namely port study, integrated coastal management, marine protected areas design/plan to explore the main research themes and major research mythologies respectively in detail.The first topic is port study, which comprises of seven sub-topics, namely port policy and law, port in transportation and supply chains, spatial analysis of port, port regulation and development, port governance, port competition&competitiveness and terminal studies.The second topic is integrated coastal management study, consisting of seven sub-topics:the coastal natural process and evolution under the human pressure, conflicts and resolution, coastal management assessment, capacity building, multi-purpose planning, laws and regulations, and the habit conservation.The third topic is marine protected areas planning study, involving with its planning and implementation mechanism, as well as its economic motive for planning.In conclusion, we make all of this three topics to the main theme of marine governance and bring out our conclusion. This paper adopts the combined methods of case studies with content analysis, aims to make a general view of the modern marine governance study since1990s.
