The Smart Antenna is one of the key technologies in TD-SCDMA, and it is also a key feature, distinguishing TDD mode from FDD mode. Smart antenna is essentially a system composed of a group of antennas and related devices. When the NodeB and the mobile station are in the call process, the Smart Antenna estimates the user’s direction of arrivalling massege, and then adjusts the antenna array excitation (amplitude and phase), keeping the main beam of the antennas turning to user signal arrival direction. But when mobile station is in the idle mode,it only receives massege from NodeB without transmiting.Then the NodeB can not know the user’s position,so it broadcasts in the whole cell. If the coverage of broadcast beam is not precisely controlled, the common channel interference will be a serious problem in the whole network, and the access performance will drop considerably.This paper discusses the application of smart antenna broadcast beamforming technology in TD-SCDMA wireless network coverage optimization, provides broadcast beamforming in a simple and effective way.According to the different wireless scene, we set the most reasonable width of beam and deflection angle to get the desired coverage effect, reduce the public channel interference at the same time, and improve the system performance. In order to validate the effect of broadcast beamforming, firstly we designed a variety of character sets and broadcast beams, using the Comba beamforming tool, according to Dongguan’s different coverage scenes(suburban, urban, dense urban area). And then, we made comparative analysis of the coverage testing data statisticed before and after the optimization, and reached the positive conclusion. I participated in the project and helped to finish the coverage testing, analysis,and other works to ensure the completion of the whole project.
