In recent years, with the steady improvement of the performance of mobile phones and people’s increasing reliance on mobile phones, diversified mobile communication devices have emerged along with a series of games development platforms, including the Java2MicroEdition (J2ME) and Android. The J2ME technology is well matured, which is extensively used in electronic products development owing to the trans-platform feature of JAVA. Due to its high efficiency, J2ME has offered an innovative solution to the intelligence and diversification of mobile devices, and has become the mainstream development platform for communications devices. Consequently, mobile games market is growing rapidly. It can be expected that in the near future mobile games will become a new kind of pastetimes after the PC games. However, how to develop mobile games quickly and efficiently to meet the requirements of users’ mobile gaming applications is key to the sustainable development of mobile games.The present situation of the development of mobile games is analyzed and solutions to the traditional mobile games develoment issues are proposed. The feasibility of the solution is examined through real mobile game project "Tank Battle". In this thesis, the design and implementation of mobile games are described. The fundamentals of J2ME and its improvement are discussed. The basic process and the key factors of the game development are exbounded taking J2ME as mobile games development platform. The design of mobile game modules is focused via developing the game "Tank Battle". The control of game playing after the packaging of the modules is presented in specific source coding. Proposed a double-buffering, collision detection, and control the operation of bullets and mobile gaming systems such as data storage mechanism for the development of key technologies, and mobile game development some of the key issues and provide specific solutions to optimize methods.The thesis originates from an actual game project, which involves the systematic modeling design and the implementation details. The technologies proposed in the thesis are key technologies of mobile game development that will provide guide for mobile game development and other J2ME-based application development.
