Mobile phone has become a necessity in the modern society. Furthermore, it is one of the most common personal items in daily life. The portability and the fast accessibility of mobile phones are the important reasons and advantages for its popularity. It can be easily seen that, the number of mobile phone sets in China is increasing rapidly as almost everyone owns at least one.Besides, the rate of its replacement also has become more and more frequently. In other words, the mobile phone is gradually becoming a form of entertainment fashion. The mobile games are also one of the most popular entertainments for the customers which are new applications based on the mobile device. The value of the industry is immeasurable. How to improve the development efficiency of the company and the quality of the games will be the real problems that companies have to face. The development technology of the original mobile games, the related SDK simulation environment, the development process of the enterprises, staffing, the requirements of the technical staff in the development process, as well as other staff requirements are analysed. Various problems in the traditional development process of the mobile phone game development are studied. New development process and related tools are designed to solve these problems.The main outcomes are as follows:1. Summarized the five elements to improve efficiency and quality of the development of mobile games. 1) Development Process. 2) Specification.3) Animation 4) Tools 5) Test.2. In terms of the specifications and models for multi-adaptation mechanism, methods using J2ME-POLISH and pre-compiler technology were proposed to fit more models and unified development specification.3. For animation and the capacity of images, graphics animation and the map image stitching techniques are proposed.These techniques can not only save the pictures capacity but also improve the developers'coding efficiency, and the grasp of animation accuracy. 4. Based on the demands of them, an animation editor and a map editor tool are designed and developed.This paper focus on J2ME technology application . It narrates the development of mobile games, which is on the basis of J2ME - by POLISH pre-compiled/pack technology, animation editor, the map editor. The functional requirements analysis, modules and the set-up of the overall framework are described from the view of software engineering. The collision and AI techniques are also described in details involved in mobile games. The development framework, tools, development process technology are analysed. Finally, a practical mobile game based on J2ME platform was developed and well tested.The performance satisfied the requirements.
