In recent years, with the continuously development of technology, Millimeter wave devices have been widely used in many fields such as Radar, electronic communications, industrial, agricultural and biological medical. Accordingly, the demand for millimeter wave sources is also increasingly increased as well as the requirements of high performance. Therefore, the millimeter wave sources usually demand not only the excellent phase noise and high frequency stability, but also the small volume and compact structure. This dissertation is carried out on the study of broadband tripler in D band with the related issues on the design of millimeter wave source. In this dissertation, the characteristics of millimeter wave and the related applications were first introduced, and then the multiplier theory, related technical indicators and the realizing methods of frequency multiplier were elaborated. Then, the study on the broadband tripler in D band (110-170GHz) and the power amplifier in U band were carried out based on the above theory. The chip ABH241of HITTITE company was used in the design of power amplifier in U band, and the actual tested gain were greater than20dB in the frequency range of50-57GHz with most of the output power greater than80mW. Further more, the UMS Schottky barrier diode DBS105A was used as the the non-linear device in the design of broadband tripler in D band, and the passive tripler with two inverted parallel tube was realized finally based on the principle of balanced multiplier. Finally, the experiment on broadband tripler was carried out. The max third harmonic power is1.7mW at126GHz and get the third harmonic power in the whole D-band, the conversion loss between18and27dB.
