The applications of power-line communications (PLC) through a long process, and it is mainly used in the fields of power dispatch System and remote control. However, with the increasingly high demands on network transmission rate, it is difficult to meet the needs of society just used PLC. Problems was solved by the emergence of broadband power-line communications (BPL), which combined with mature orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM), and has realized the broadband power-line system. This paper focuses on the use of OFDM in BPL system, allocation strategy of dynamic resource and optimization based on genetic algorithm. This method can select appropriate bit allocation by the different of sub-carrier and users’ characteristics. And this method is designed to reduce the transmission power of the system, so it can improve the resource utilization of the BPL system, and provide users with better service quality. This paper analyzes the network architecture of the power-line system, include its transmission channel, interference characteristics, and it is given the general method of modeling and simulation. Genetic algorithm is one of the best tools in solving optimization problem. This paper gives the basic knowledge of the genetic algorithm and its characteristics, then analyzes the feasibility of genetic algorithm with broadband power-line system, and its advantages in solving multi-objective optimization problem. On this basis, this paper proposed a single-user resource allocation algorithm based on genetic algorithm, and it is compared with traditional optimization methods, then simulated and analyzed in typical power-line channel environment. Then an improved genetic algorithm is applied in more complex multi-user systems, it is also simulated and analyzed in typical power-line channel environment, and compared with traditional optimization methods. Practical results show that genetic algorithm can meet the power-line communication’s demands for dynamic resource allocation of multiple objectives, using genetic algorithm to optimize the allocation of resource achieved the better result.
