The oral archive is new sthing of archive, it apearches just some ten yeais, but its origin is very long. It can be traced back to the "Historical Records of Sima Qian of the Han dynasty. In the period of feudal society, the file is a record of imperial and phase,so the records owned by ruling class of the nationa. Ordinary people have no right to use the file. Republican history, party history, war history, history of ideas and revolutionary history record layer character, such as political leaders, spiritual leaders and other leaders, the elite-centered. Historiographer, with the description of the court file classics is a celebration of the officials of the imperial political esteem and yearning. History is created by the people, but look at the true history, we can’t find people’s faces. With the development of Western New History, Oral History becomes a new branch of history, because it advocated the democratization so it has a rapid development. In this context, the concept of the oral archives was raised by the files scholars in China, and then it attracted wide attention.This thesis is composed of five plates.The first section is the introduction part, introduces the purpose and significance of the thesis, using the methods and ideas.The second section, the concept of oral archive is introduced, and then discuss the essential attribute of the oral archive. The second part is the characteristics of the oral archives. The third part is to discuss the course of development of the Chinese oral archive, and foreign countries development takes the United States of Oral History as an example.The third section focuses on the value and function of the oral archives. To obtain information, oral archives is based on interviews, so it has a different characteristics from the general. And oral archives is the respondents of recall, so it makes dictation file has sentimental value. The dictation files also have historical value, including filled the gaps in the history, riched the archives collection contents, protected and rescueed historical cultural heritage, and broaden the field of archival science research.The fourth plate of article discusses the practice of the dictation file, including oral archives project planning, pre-visit interview, recorded dictation files, organize, save, and professional ethics.The fifth segment is for oral archives to making outlook and giving some suggestions.
