Generally speaking, reality show (also called people show, or reality television) refers to a TVprogram aims at selecting final winners from many participants in the form of a kind ofcompetitions by TV medium. Meanwhile, the program hold abundant prizes and can obtainsignificant economic benefit.Although reality show is a much younger member among many programs, it has been acceptedand loved by a large number of audiences since it appeared.Up to now, reality shows still occupy most of the top twenty programs in Nelson AudienceRating List, especially as long as some classic old-brand programs are on,, for example, Dancingwith the Stars, it will be no doubt that these programs will defeat other TV programs to ran thefirst in the list of audience rating.This research studies reality shows by the research method that theories are combined with caseanalyses from the perspective of planning strategies of reality show. Targeting several famousreality shows in Europe and America, such as Survivor, America’s Next Top Model and ProjectRunway, this thesis is divided into three chapters to systematically discuss and study theplanning strategies of reality shows. In the first chapter, it states features and evolution of realityshows. The second chapter not only overviews the planning of reality shows but also analyzesand summarizes the principles of its planning. Then, the third part divides the planning strategiesof reality shows into three parts: pre-planning, post-planning and innovation andspecifically states planning strategies of reality show based on analyses and researches of realityshows in recent years and the combination of theories with case analysesAlthough domestic and foreign researches on reality shows have been relevantly mature andthorough and have obtained some achievement, it is still worth learning the methods andstrategies by which reality show, as a TV program keeping pace with the times, makesself-improvement and changes to ranking No.1in the list of audience rating under theenvironment where competition is so drastic. According to continuous attempts and changes ofseveral reality shows in the aspect of planning strategies in recent years, this research analyzesand summarizes necessary planning strategies for a successful reality show, which provides avaluable reference for the development of current reality shows.
