Archives Consciousness Theory

With the development of archive work, archivists become form the loyal guardians to participants in collecting archives and appraising archives, and now they require participating in the whole management、the front-end control and "creating archives" in electronic information age. The role of archivists has greatly changed. In the process of change, people’s knowledge of archives plays an important role on archives practice. When the archive is considered as the tool of the rule, archivists will only play the role of the keeper. When people realize the evidence value and culture value of archive, archivists are allowed to participate in appraising archives. When electronic document is admitted to the archive, archivists are allowed to participate in the whole management and the front-end control in order to ensure the evidence value.People’s knowledge of archive plays an important role in the process of change of the archive practice and we should pay attention to this kind of knowledge, so we take interest in archive consciousness. This paper’s the main content is archive consciousness. After the investigation of a large number of the literature of this problem, the first part has summarized the research of this problem and comes a basic conclusion of this problem. According to the current research of the meaning of archive consciousness and my own research, in the second chapter, this paper gives new meaning of archive consciousness using logic analysis method.We think archive consciousness is the people’s reflection of archive. At the same time, this paper explains the structure of archive consciousness and points out that its subject includes not only the public, but also archivists and its object includes not only archive cognition, but also archive will. In the third chapter of history analysis method, this paper reveals the development of the archive consciousness and the factors of the archive consciousness. Chapter4is the heart of this paper and points out the function of archive consciousness. It not only impacts archive theory, but it impacts archive practice, especially the archive consciousness of the archivists produces control function on archive practice and affects the construction of social memory. As archivists, we should fully realize our social responsibility and develop our archive consciousness, thus we can complete the archive work better and construct social memory better.
