With the development of society and economy, underground pipeline across every corner of the city, to become the lifeblood of urban development. Underground pipeline damage accidents happen frequently due to aging effect of the pipeline, corrosion, human destruction and brutal construction. This not only caused huge economic losses, but also leads to severe damage to the ecological environment, threatening the safety of people’s lives. Therefore, establishing a set of underground pipeline the safety monitoring system has important practical significance.Under the background of Vibration monitoring of underground pipeline, considering the system power consumption and real-time quality, this paper designed an underground pipeline safety monitoring system based on wireless sensor network technology. It has low power consumption, and can accomplish the practical function of real-time monitoring and alarming. This system can notify the emergency maintenance personnel before the underground pipeline facilities were damaged. The main content of this paper is as follows:Firstly, the importance and the conditions of underground pipeline safety monitoring system is introduced. This paper gives wireless sensor networks an analysis of its advantages, architecture, node design requirements and application background, and discusses its main function and technical specifications; Then the concepts, technical features and network configuration of ZigBee are introduced. IEEE802.15.4standards and ZigBee Protocol stack, focused on the function of NWK, PHY, MAC and APL architecture are introduced too.Secondly, research and analyze the types and causes of underground pipeline damage, and gives the appropriate preventive measures; It completed the overall structure design of the underground pipeline safety monitoring system. The realization of the various components is described. According to the tasks and work environment, We put forward the hierarchical routing protocol and positioning algorithm upon the topology of networks, which ensures the underground pipeline message can be sent to monitoring centre successfully.Thirdly, the realization of underground pipeline safety monitoring system based on ZigBee is proposed. In which it choose the low power module CC2530as the core, combined with the vibration sensors, which collect and process data from the underground pipeline. The node hardware design and software design by applying IAR development platform and Z-Stack Protocol Stack, as well as a PC monitor interface design using Qt Programming language are completed.Finally, the effect test was conducted of the designed system under operation. Test results show that the monitoring system can run in good condition. It is able to conduct real-time pipeline monitoring, accurately reflect the pipeline’s vibration and alarming timely.
