Research And Implementation On Model Converting Between Speedtree And Virtools

With the advancement of IT technology and Virtual Reality, and the requirement of visualizing the digital forest industry, the application of forest landscape is also developing as well as the applying scope. Virtual reality platform and virtual plant model is the premise of the forest landscape visualization system applications.Research of render large-scale forest plants in virtual reality platform with high efficiency is an important aspect of landscape visualization, and format conversion between the virtual reality platform and the virtual plant is also an important component of forest landscape visualization.The study selects the mainstream virtual reality platform Virtools and plant modeling software SpeedTree as research object. Based on operating mechanism and technology of SpeedTree and Virtools, this paper proposes a method of integrating SpeedTree plant model to Virtools platform, so that the Virtools platform can produce forest landscape scenes.The study realizes model converting from SpeedTree to the Virtools platform by plug-in, and then draws realistic forest trees in Virtools. Firstly, The target and the feasibility of implementation are analyzed. Secondly, goals down into the plug-in functional components and non-functional requirements, framework and work processes plug-in are designed. Finally, the SpeedTree to Virtools plug-in is tested. Tests show that the plug-in realizes rendering realistic SpeedTree trees in the Virtools platform, and ensures the efficiency of the system. The SpeedTree plug-in has certain real sense to information visualization of digital forestry and forest landscape visualization development while it can be used in the large-scale trees’fast rendering of the virtual forest scene.
