The world is striding forward to an information society, with the explosive development of telephone network, Internet, ISDN, and CATV network. It is time to build information highway. The optical fiber has been more and more widely used in the world because of its many merits such as great communication capacity, long transmission distance, high transmission quality, anti-interference and corrosion-proof etc. In order to improve performances of the optical fiber, thorough research about the optical fiber drawing technology and theory has been made by many national and international experts. In this paper, that the drawing technology influences on cut-off wavelength, mode field diameter(MFD), attenuation, strength and other performance of the single mode optical fiber has been introduced. Furthermore, how our company should improve performances of the single mode optical fiber, raise finished product rate of the optical fiber, reduce manufacture cost of the optical fiber, enhance product superiority by optimizing the drawing technology has been analyzed. In the first chapter of this paper the national and international development history about the optical fiber has been reviewed briefly, the drawing machine and preform which we use and the drawing technology for the single mode fiber have been introduced. In the second chapter of this paper, theoretical formula of cut-off wavelength has been introduced. We analyze and discuss the relation between fiber drawing tension and cut-off wavelength along with MFD of the single mode optical fiber. The relation between cut-off wavelength and MFD has been established by utilizing numerical value analytic method.
