Plant visualization modeling technology has been the focus of computer graphics research, also one of the hottest research areas of 3DGIS and virtual reality. The core content is realistic 3D computer graphics applications. Due to the requirements of the forestry information, plant visualization modeling technology has very important significance for forestry equipment engineering. Texture mapping technology is the general method in computer graphics used to build up the real graphical environment. The images of vegetation, trees and flowers and other organic life are mapped on surface of the geometric model, which constitutes the real physical object. Plant is undoubtedly an important factor of the natural scene, but plant complex structure has the considerable difficulty both in modeling and drawing. It is necessary to carry out intensive research in model building.In this paper Prunus mume was selected as the research object to build visualization model based on SpeedTree Prunus mume is the Chinese traditional spirit symbol, and has strong and universal appeal and driving force. Since the ancient times, it represents the spirit symbol of indomitable perseverance and of striving quality. In the last twenty years, eight in seventy five international registered old trees have been dead in succession. There is only one tree in ancient or infrequent tree species, so it is needed immediately to conduct a study through the virtual computer constructing model for the non destructive measurement research. SpeedTree is widely used in various fields in three dimension plant modeling, and SpeedTree Model Library has a very important influence worldwide. There is no one kind of Prunus mume in SpeedTree Model Library, so it is unfavorable to promote the Chinese traditional flower. If the Prunus mume model could be added into the SpeedTree Model Library, it is vey significant to make more people understanding Chinese unique flower and more in-depth Chinese culture. There is no the relevant three-dimensional model and visualization technology research carried out for Prunus mume, which causes great difficulties to study the tree. The key work and contributions in this paper are as follows:(1) Depending on the modeling and tree structure data requirements in Prunus mume garden in Jiufeng National Forest Park, a specific data acquisition program is proposed. On account of the specific circumstances of the experiment site, the field data acquisition is handled twice to gain the first-hand real data needed in two periods. The real tree data has a very important role for combining the model with data.(2) Studying the related basic plant theory and computer graphics constructing model knowledge, the tree models is rapidly built based on SpeedTree. Some common plant model topology structure and related theoretical basis for model building are been under discuss. Based on the analysis of advantages and disadvantages of current L-system, particle system and other major plant modeling theory, a plant visual model construction method is proposed. Considering to use different modeling technology in the different parts of the structure, combined with billboards and texture mapping optimize technology, the method builds all parts of plum model (such as trunk, branches, leaves, etc.) to ensure the model optimization with a number of preset effects. The first time completed the 10 varieties of Prunus mume realistic models in the world, and has been the approval from SpeedTree.(3) Integrated with the key technologies above, the Prunus mume scene system is completed. The large-scale scene optimization, complex terrain rendering and high performance technology have been subjected to intensive studies. The Prunus mume scene with up to 20000 trees in 10 varieties has been simulated, showing visual effects of a variety of tree model in the same scene. The experimental results show that, compared to the plant models with the traditional building methods, the models based on SpeedTree have little amount of data Computation and strong realistic effects and is a beneficial attempt.
