The Seventeen Years & Lt; The People's Daily & Gt; Research On Female Image

The thesis studies the female images constructed in People’s Daily over seventeen years (1949-1966) from the perspective of content analysis. Through the qualitative and quantitative study of the sample articles about women from People’s Daily during the seventeen years (1949-1966), this thesis further comment the female images constructed in People’s Daily during this period comprehensively.The first part is frontier. First, the thesis studies the present research situation on female images both at home and abroad. Then, it makes a theoretical summary on subject consciousness, the female media critical theory and the agenda setting theory which are closely related to this thesis. At last, this thesis indicates its academic and practical meaning.The second part is introduction. This part mainly focuses on the analysis of the data from the People’s Daily and the importance of this period (1949-1966). The thesis constructs the working definition of "Ideology Constructor" which means the People’s Daily, and the "Cultural Norms" in the seventeen years (1949-1966).The third part is the experimental design. In this part, content analysis is adopted to analyze the choosing, representative and the coding of the samples.The fourth part makes a quantitative analysis about the samples from five dimensions:layout, age, occupation, nationality and organization.With the reference to the samples, the fifth part makes a qualitative analysis about the female images constructed by the People’s Daily in the seventeen years (1949-1966), and constructs the image of "national political participant", "professional women image from vague to clear", "the negative female images ideologically" and some other female images.The sixth part comprehensively comments the importance of the female images constructed by the People’s Daily. This part not only fully affirms the female images constructed by the People’s Daily during the seventeen years (1949-1966), but also indicates the collective unconsciousness about the female images of that special period. The seventeen years is an indispensible part in the construction of Chinese women’s images, and deserves people’s further research.
