Smart phone makes an explosive growth in recent years, especially for Apple iPhone and Google Android. People are more and more intent to use smart phone to obtain real-time information, such as check for new mail arrives, get the latest stock prices, etc., that makes a broad space for the usage of cloud push service.An investigation of traditional message push technology has been made in this paper. The investigation found that both the methods of polling and long active connection will make a great waste of limited resources (such as network traffic, battery, etc.) in the smart phone environment. So it is obvious that the traditional message push technology does not suitable for the mobile devices.Make the traditional message push technology a service can be a good solution in the mobile environment. Making all the mobile applications share a single long activate connection can save the limited resources and improve user satisfaction.In the context, the paper designs and implements a cloud message push service (iNotify Message Push Service) based on the Android smart phone operating system. The paper makes a good design and uses many industry leading technologies to ensure that the service has a good stability, scalability and security. It can well support a large number of concurrent user requests. Mobile application developers can also easily adding the message push function in their applications with the service.
