Host Identity Protocol (HIP) is proposed based on a new network architecture which separate the host’s identity and location. It adds a host identity namespace, remove the ambiguity of IP address. Host identity on behalf of the host identification, and the IP address represent the host location. HIP protocol can solve many problems which the Internet facing today, such as mobility, multi-home routing scalability and security. HIP host identity protocol use control packets to complete the corresponding operation of the protocol. HIP control packets including the association establishment message(I1、R1、I2、R2), UPDATE message and the NOTIFY message and so on. These messages are used to create, update and close the HIP association. The normal operation of HIP protocol depends on the communication entity right to process the control packets. When the network is unstable or both of the host move simultaneously or change address at the same time, will lead to loss of control packets, resulting in traffic disruption.This article analyzes the basic principle of HIP protocol, builds OpenHIP test environment under Linux for systematic analysis of HIP key mechanism. Since control packet has some drawbacks to transmit, through the introduction of control packets sent timer and RVS server forwards control packets these two key technologies, this article design a reliable communication method on Host Identity Protocol, This method in order to improve the reliability of communication in HIP. Further, this article base on the OMNET++ simulation tools, extents the hipsim++ basic module, increases a control packets sent timer and the select function of sent method of control packets in terminal, and increase control packets forwarding function in RVS server, implements simulation module of reliable communication method on Host Identity Protocol. Besides, to experiment on the simulation scenes of two hosts’ mobile at the same time and just one host’s mobile respectively. Experiment results identify that the reliable communication method on Host Identity Protocol makes the communication more reliable and effective.
