National promotional video is an art form that uses a variety of performance techniques to present the image of a country, embodying a country’s most important intangible assets. This paper analyzes the production history, explains the purpose and significance of China promotional video. To some extent, this video indicates a new period of China’s public relations of international image. The image of nation and people has been raised to an important component of "soft power", and thus the formation of a new structure of government advocacy and community participation.Based on the theories of visual communication, film communication and cross culture communication, the paper analyzes the text of the video and proposes my own opinion-the lack of theme and ordinary people, the monotony of expression methods, and etc. The paper also proposes the following suggestions:the authorized official must have the cross cultural view, the audience should have a benign decoding space to interpret, the elements of cultural differences should be cautiously used, and etc.The paper thinks that the playing of this video is a great improvement of Chinese international communication and our nation’s image through the world. Based on this, the paper explains the understanding of marketing nation’s image and promoting international communication through six aspects:cultivating national spirit; improving citizens’awareness of national image; mastering the right to speak; broadening the channels of communicating promoting video; build our own brands to improve the national image and increase the ability to maintain image.
