Research On Public Welfare Of TV Variety Program

Since 90’s of the 20th century, the rapid development of TV technology in China has given a sound technical support for Chinese TV variety programs. With the economic rise and the industrialized transformation of TV industry of China, the art form of television has also changed dramatically. The entertainment status of TV variety programs rise straight up and become the mainstream programs on screen.Entertainment is not only a common activity in ordinary life, but also a common phenomenon of human society. Entertainment relaxes people physically and eases mental tension and makes us delightful and refreshed, so that it satisfies people’s inner needs. TV variety programs with plenty integration methods of images, music and multimedia have won the acceptance and attention of general public. However, with the openness of entertainment being wider, there appears a tendency of TV variety programs being more vulgar and cynical, which has aroused widespread concern.How to realize the entertainment function of TV variety programs while achieving its public welfare property of creating and illustrating mainstream values and cultural connotation is a matter worthy of discussion. Prevalence of public welfare concepts in the field of television is a reflection of social progress, which can inspire people’s sense of social morality and care for others. In this way, TV variety programs exert a positive influence on raising the moral level of society and constantly propelling the society forward.Taking TV variety programs as research subject, the essay analyzes the entertainment function of TV. Five TV variety programs of different forms from the Education, Science and Technology Channel of Zhejiang TV Station have been chosen as examples, which respectively are Beauty Plan A, Which is right and which is wrong, May Flowers, October Sunshine, Flowing Stage. An insightful discussion in the perspective of categories and forms has been conducted about the method of realizing the public welfare property of TV variety programs, and the relationship and problems to be clarified during the process.
