As the development of the Garment Industry, the whole industrial sewing machine get to involve fast, from the early stage mainstream flat sewing machine, into nowadays multi-functional and specialized machines, from single-ended drive motor based into the multi-ended ones. Up until now, there are hundreds of types of sewing machines. Specialized sewing machine stands in one branch of the industrial sewing machine, which is generally based on multi-ended motor drive system with one PMSM as the main motor, and several step motors to corporate in order to sew complicated patterns. Due to the vast diversity and high complication of its electronic control system, it’s very hard to develop a common-use system for all these kind of machines. The general way to do this is to develop customized electronic system for each type of machine, which would inevitably lead to more technical bottlenecks, longer development circles, more risk and less reliability.This paper present the basic characteristics of electronic control system of the specialized sewing machine, and intend to introduce a control platform with highly effective response, and more flexible and more disposability to accommodate different types of machines. Compared to the common button panel, this platform introduces a graphic user interface based on a color LCD display and touch screen as its human to machine interface. The use of GUI makes it more flexible for developers, and more easily for the users to manipulate. The motor control part of this platform is a DSP+FPGA structure. It can manage the precise control of up to 8 servomotors or step motors, as well as other peripheral unit such as electromagnets. The use of pulse-control method between its main system and its motion control system greatly improve its extensibility, makes it easy to adapt to different type of machines. In the motor driver part, it uses a PMSM as its spindle drive motor, which has the attribute of low pulse variation, high frequencies, high degree of accuracy; as for the step motor drive part, it use subdivision control and chopping wave technique to fully display motor’s performance. The study result of the feasibility of this platform’s is given in the paper.
