The topic of my research is originated from the project of my internship in Mobile Platforms Group (MPG) of Intel Asia-Pacific Research and Development Ltd. It is mainly about the user study and interface design aiming at the netbook of school children(pupils between the ages of 6 and 12).With advances in computer and network technology, more and more people have concerned about children’s market, the notebook for school children have begun to appear. Under the guidance of parents, many school children start to buy and use the notebook. In the context of this study, this paper uses a user-centered design method to start the user research and interface design aiming at the notebook of school children.This research includes three areas: First, the states of children’s interaction design at home and abroad , notebook for school children and cognitive features of school children; Second, user-study methods and interface design principles for school children; Third, guide practice according to previous methods and theory: design user interface to meet user requirements and conform to the user habits.The entire research includes 3 stages: literature investigation, user study and interaction design. In the phase of literature investigation, through the collection and analysis of relevant literature, we understand the states of children’s interaction design at home and abroad, notebook for school children and cognitive features of school children,then author elaborates user-study methods and interface design principles for school children.In the phase of user study and requirements analysis , graphical questionnaire, the involvement of parents based user interviews and behavioral observation survey methods which are used to obtain the data of basic information about users , view and attitude of users and user behaviors . And based on these data, user groups are divided , and then 3 personas are created, scenario design and requirements analysis are conducted in accordance with personas. In the phase of interaction and prototype design,according to the results of task analysis,structural design of functional and interactive process design are conducted.Then low-fidelity prototype is completed,and 12 users are invited , user-test method is used to verify the function of design and interaction with the users’needs and behavior.And In accordance with the test results improvement on the prototype is completed. Next,in the basis of low-fidelity prototypes,high-fidelity prototype is completed,and user- test method is used to evaluate the prototype , aiming at finding usability problems and surveying user satisfaction.Innovation of this paper is as follows: First, after reading a large number of foreign literature, summarize the user-study methods and interface design principles for school children;Second, make the E-Kids business model for the notebook of school-age children;Third,Show a set of laptop users and interface design process relatively comprehensive and systematic aiming at the netbook of school children.In the whole progress of the research, the theory of user centered design is implemented strictly.The research not only extracts the potential user requirements, but also uses a design practice to verify the user study methods and the user interface design theory for the follow-up research and notebook design.
