With the development of computer techno logy, various industries have begun the application of computer technology to the industry,virtual reality technology and computer simulation more widely, computer animation simulation has also been developed rapidly. Computer games, video, animation, etc., began to flourish development.On the other hand, The world of military training is constrainted of the economic, security, international political, the training effect is getting worse, and also unable to meet basic training requirements, many new weapons can not be applied to the daily training and war. Research became a national military community to spare no effort to find an effective training method. In this case, the virtual battlefield emerged. However, people find irregular natural environment and simulation of special effects is a difficult problem in the virtual battlefield environment, such as clouds, rain, snow, smoke simulation. These irregular objects have a common characteristic:they have no fixed shape, can not accurately defined.This paper simulate battlefield explosions and battlefield flame two common virtual battlefield scene useing a method based on particle system.The following works have been done:(1) Overviewed the development of the virtual battlefield environment in the world, Introduction the main components of composition and composition of the content of the virtual battlefield environment, and studying domestic and foreign scholars have proposed a variety of irregular objects simulation.(2) Depth study of the basic principles of particle systems, using mathematical methods to describe the particle system, given the definition of the particle system, the basic structure of the particle system are described, Introduction establishing the model of particle systems steps and methods in detail, and summarizes the characteristics of the particle system. three processes of generating moving demise in the particle system are given a detail description. OpenGL graphics development tools described in detail, and several key technologies are introduced, as well as steps. (3) Using the particle system, the battlefield explosions in the virtual battlefield environment was simulated. the explosion process is analyzed and the characteristics of the explosion is summarized, base on analysis of the results,explosion particle system model is designed, particle system drawing functions and OpenGL color mixing technology of the explosion were drawing the battlefield simulation of the effects of the explosion.(4) The flame scene of the virtual battlefield environment are simulated, flame particle system model is established, the flame particles of attributes and data structures are defined, also the flame properties are set. At the same time, the flame of various power are analyzed, a variety of dynamic field are also established, various dynamic field particle motion is analyzed. According to Newton’s second law to update the various properties of the particles, and the flame particle system algorithm is given, A combination of texture mapping and color mixing technology in OpenGL graphics tools are applied of drawing and the particle system’s real-time and realism are increased.
