Under the background of the whole community moving towards intelligent, intelligent identification and management of all items becomes a dream of people, which results in starting the age from the Internet to the Internet of Things. The technology of M2M(Machine-to-Machine) and wireless sensor networks, which both are the supporting technology of the Internet of Things, have important research value and application prospect. However, M2M is immature and also lack of standard and technical specification, so manufacturers and operators want to push out their own solutions, which hinder M2M’s steps of development towards standardization. Besides, the research in M2M and wireless sensor networks are relatively independent, failing to combine into an organic whole.The thesis is main to complete developing the M2M system based on the ARM11and embedded Linux. The system gets data through ZigBee network, and delivers them to the M2M terminals, then delivers by Wi-Fi and GPRS. The system also has plenty of functional interfaces with good versatility and scalability; In software part, transplanting the embedded Linux as a platform for software development, completing development of hardware drivers, achieving the testing system of data transmission basing on Wi-Fi and GPRS. The results turns out that the system has basically achieved the target, completed the development of the M2M system based on wireless communication.In the Internet of things, it’s an inevitable trend that sensor networks and M2M will work together. Firstly, the thesis discuss the necessity and feasibility of integration of M2M and sensor networks, then implement the mobile M2M system with variety modes of communication based on the existing mobile communication technology, which establish the hardware platform for the Internet of things and wireless sensor networks, and made some beneficial exploration in the M2M theory research and engineering practice. The M2M terminal is a general solution for a variety of net environments, real-time collection and transmission of information, to interact with the server-side software, can be applied to environmental monitoring, manufacturing automation, and many other fields.Finally, this thesis gets a briefly summary of the whole project, and points out issues still exists and directions of research.
