Groundwater is utilized as the source of daily life and production in Shenyang.Mostly, it is riverside groundwater resource field. However there is a big security riskof water quality in Shenyang city’s water source well, it is an urgent need to study thecorresponding measures. Building a riverside groundwater information managementsystem can provide data basis and technical support. The article applies geographicinformation system (GIS) to groundwater information management, building theShenyang riverside groundwater resource field information management systemsbased on SQL database management system and Visual Basic.Net development lan-guage, implementation for Shenyang groundwater management, monitoring andgroundwater assessment. The paper’s main results are as follows:(1) Established the groundwater properties and monitoring database of Shenyang. It realized the management of hydro-meteorological data, lithology data, boreholeproperties, geophysical exploration data, surface water data, groundwater wells andwater supplying information, monitoring pore structures, dynamic monitoring data ofwater level and water quality. The design of database considered the actual circums-tances of Shenyang riverside groundwater resource field with the reference to the na-tional standard “SL basic hydrological database table structure and identifier stan-dards”,“SL water quality database table structure and identifier standards” and “SLwater resource monitoring and management database table structure and identifierstandards”. Riverside water intake and water source to the actual situation. There is aclose link between all the data to efficiently and accurately manage groundwater in-formation.(2) The development of groundwater management systems and GIS systems wasbased on the evaluation method and the database. The system can easily query, man-age and maintain the data, control the monitoring data in real time, bi-directionalquery the spatial data and attribute data, load, unload, zoom in, zoom out and roamthe map, analyze the location and spatial data, build groundwater thematic maps and statistical reports, as well as groundwater quality assessment.(3) Using the the Composite Index Appraisal Method to evaluate groundwaterquality, and then displaying it clearly with graphics and tables.
