It wastes too much time to create three-dimensional animation of Chinese ancient buildings, because they had complex structure and various modeling. It becomes an important topic to improve the creating process and the efficiency of creation. In the representing projects with the three-dimensional animation of the buildings of the Ming Dynasty, the efficiency of creating indoor scenes is low. To address this problem, a detailed analysis on the process of the creation of architectural scenes has been carried out. In the decorating process, using traditional manual methods to place furniture is the low precision with too much repetitive work. In order to improve the creative process and the efficiency of creation, a method of automatically placing furniture is proposed. In the method, a mathematical model is built to calculate the position of the furniture layout, which can fulfill the function of automatically placing furniture with MAXScript language.The thesis mainly contributes to the following aspects:having a survey on the projects of the three-dimensional animation of the Ming Dynasty buildings, and pointing out the disadvantages of using traditional manual methods to build the model and the advantages of using MAXScript language to automatically place furniture; a method is presented for automatically creating indoor scenes with scripting language; with the analysis of the Ming-style building rules, and the verification of the method of placing furniture in the Ming-style hall, studying room, bedroom and some other kinds of indoor layout, a model of calculating the position of the furniture layout has been built; a MAXScript based tool of automatically placing furniture is designed and developed.In this tool, the Ming-style hall, studying room, bedroom and some other indoor scenes can be automatically placed, and the target of automatically placing indoor scenes based upon space constraints has been achieved, thus provides a guarantee for the projects of three-dimensional animation of the Ming Dynasty buildings.
