In the early 20th century, the main goal of the nationalism discourse construction is to establish unified nation. The goal became the starting point and the foothold for the intellectuals to understanding nationalism. As an important part of the movement of Chinese nationalism at the late Qing Dynasty, it was considered the landmark event for the nationalism that developed in china. In this paper, The Shen News will be used as the text, and the movement of the railway’s right as the main line, to explore the history of the nationalism discourse construction in the newspapers.After the reformation of The Shen News in 1905, under the influence of the complex social context in the late Qing Dynasty, the construction of nationalism discourse of The Shen News went through a flawed and changed way. At the prophase of the movement, The Shen News consciously to be the propagator and supervisor of the constitutional reformation, and build the constituent to save the nation became the important part of nationalism discourse.In the process of the movement of the railway’s right, resisting the railway external debt is always the core content. With the influence of constitutionalism domestic, the attitude of the external debt of The Shen News goes through a changed process from weak to strong. Along with the invading forces, the people’s national awareness enhanced greatly. As the important content of prepare constitutional reformation of the Qing government, the local autonomy policy strengthen the awareness of province, and also find out a new way for the development of nationalism. The promulgation of the Qing government railway state-owned policy stimulates the people’s fragile nerve, meanwhile, revolutionary movement develop fast, and eventually led to the destruction of the Qing dynasty.This paper not only can show complex and vivid historical circumstances of The Shen News in late Qing Dynasty, and analyze its social, political, and cultural context, and also can grasp the discourse strategy and specific experience of newspapers nationalism construction in late Qing Dynasty. It reveals the local path and special rules of Tran-cultural communication by newspaper, and provides important experience material for the subject of communication of local research.
