With the extensive application of Electronic Information System, the enlarging of its scale and the rising of its complexity, the dependability of the Electronic Information System is facing large challenge. In case the Electronic Information Systems in safety-critical areas collapse, it will result in loss of life, significant property damage, or damage to the environment. Therefore, the dependability of Electronic Information System increasingly becomes the focus. But, because of limits of the development of Dependability Theory、technologies and other conditions, the dependability of the Electronic Information System can’t be completely promised which makes drawing an objective conclusion on the Dependability of the Electronic Information System be necessary and scientific, sound evaluation to its Dependability be needed. Through evaluating the dependability of Electronic Information System to get an objective and quantitative result, it provides a firm base for having a sound judgment on the Dependability and for deep analyzing it in details. What is more important, it also provides a firm base for improving the Dependability of Electronic Information System. Hereby, now research on the evaluation of the Dependability of Electronic Information System is a nuclear problem in the area of Dependability.The Dependability of Electronic Information System is a synthetic and multidimensional reflection of the traditional concepts of the availability, the reliability, the security, the maintainability and other non-functional attributes of Electronic Information System. Therefore, it is a process of comprehensive judgment on divers attributes related the quality of the system which needs taking all of the related attributes of the dependability into consideration. In this dissertation, combining the Theory of Complexity and Complex System, the evaluation of the Dependability of Electronic Information System is delivered in details. The main components of this dissertation are as follows:1) Based on concepts of Dependability and Theory of Complexity and Complex System, Combining the characters and complexity of Electronic Information System, this paper provides the definition and meanings of the Dependability of Electronic Information System and analyzes the factors that have influence on the Dependability of Electronic Information System.2) The paper gives a formal description approach to the dependability of Electronic Information System and establishes concept model and evaluation model of dependability of Electronic Information System.3) In this paper, we establish the hierarchical structure of the indicators of dependability, and study the measurement of definition of dependability indicators of Electronic Information System and the description of indicators.4) Based on analyzing the current System Evaluation Theory and primary evaluation approaches and combining the characters of dependability of Electronic Information System, the process evaluation model is established and Hierarchical Fuzzy and Comprehensive evaluation method based on Entropy Weight is provided to achieve the quantitative evaluation of the dependability of Electronic Information System.
