Web based teaching is the key to education informationization and modernization.It is a new way of teaching which leverages computer, internet, and multimediatechnologies. It breaks the hurdle of that teaching and learning must happen at thesame time and in the same location; it uses vivid teaching materials; and it fostersstudent oriented learning. Web based teaching has been developing fast in collegesand universities in China. Some schools have web resource databases and informationplatforms. However, these databases and platforms were designed and constructedbased on the specific need of each school. It’s hard to directly apply them to otherschool, especially vocational colleges, which have different focus in teaching andlearning. Currently there are two major issues exist in vocational colleges: one is thatthe digitalized teaching materials are stored on teachers’ individual computer or theservers of the teaching group. There is no centralized data storage or managementsystem. These data are used without any access restrictions and lack of unifiedmanagement. The other problem is that with fast increase of educational resources onthe Internet, there are more and more intertwined factors that affect the efficiency oflearning. There is an urgent need to construct an effective evaluation model to assessstudents’ learning efficiency.This project was based on the demand of digital campus in Beijing VocationalCollege of Electronic Science and Technology and the two significant problems listedabove. The teaching resource data from basic courses such as Mathematics, Chinese,English, Physical Education, and Philosophy and Politics were collected and theirusage patterns were analyzed. After researching the functional, technical, structural,and database management system requirements, the cutting-edge computer softwaretechnologies such as Web2.0and J2EE, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), andDistributed storage were applied to construct a web based teaching resourcedatacenter. This datacenter includes databases with teaching resource data and aplatform that supports the teaching process. The databases contain data regarding theinformation of college and department, teachers, students, courses, shared resources,and individual data. The teaching platform includes main web pages, web courses,teaching resource management, information exchange, evaluation system, teacher andstudent management, tracing and statistics, online help, forum and questionnaires. Inthe evaluation system, a fuzzy comprehensive evaluation model was constructed forbasic course to assess the learning efficiency. The construction of the resource datacenter in this research basically solved theproblems in Beijing Vocational College of Electronic Science and Technology wherethe teaching data were scattered and not shared. It dramatically enriched web basedteaching. It provided a fuzzy comprehensive evaluation model that fits the web basedteaching environment. It reached the goal of improved teaching and learning process.The application of this resource datacenter can increase teachers work efficiency; canimprove students learning ability, can assist the communication and feedback amongteachers and students and eventually improve the learning efficiency. It provided anexample and set directions for other schools to construct their own web basedteaching resource datacenter. The procedure of constructing the fuzzy comprehensivemodel can be applied to construct models to evaluate other aspects in web basedteaching.
