Benchmarking is one of the most important managements, which enables organizations to continuously improve themselves and to gain competitive advantages in business management activities of Western developed countries. Benchmarking, re-engineering and strategic alliance are considered as the three management methods in 1990s. Also, benchmarking is a top-down, various levels throughout the enterprise, multi-dimensional, comprehensive and systematic benchmarking process. Many companies at home and abroad have used the benchmarking to optimize business practices, improve enterprise management level and core competitiveness.The benchmarking information system is a set of software system which realizes the ideas, concepts and methods of the benchmarking automatically and intelligently by means of computer programming languages. The system, which provides strong information, can help senior managers and decision-makers to make decisions and guide the development of enterprises in order to make them learn and catch up with the advanced enterprises, and to enhance the competitiveness.Firstly, the paper deeply studies the practical significance of benchmarking for oil industry combined with the background of oil industry, which clears the research purposes of this paper. Secondly, the paper analyzing the implementation process and analysis principles of benchmarking for oil industry in detail establishes a multi-dimensional data model and the OLAP multi-dimensional analysis method. Thirdly, the paper accurately designs the functional modules of benchmarking for oil industry and explains the role of each functional module. Finally, this paper introduces the critical development technologies and patterns used to develop the benchmarking system, and completes the system design and development.
