The quick development of the automotive industry and embedded technologygives birth to the vehicle electronics which is the combination of them. Cars becomethe most important transportation tool for people due to the busy daily life. Peoplespend more time in vehicle with increasing requirements in better experience ofcommunicating with people outside and entertainment inside. These two facts lead tothe emerging In-Vehicle multimedia system. In-Vehicle multimedia system, whichmainly consisting of multimedia player, road navigation and telecommunication, isresponsible for data fetching and processing.In-Vehicle multimedia system is in fact an embedded system, and has only a fewfunctions owing to the low performance of hardware at the beginning. It is due to thequick development of electronic technology that the function of video playing becomesavailable for people’s requirement. Video playing needs much system resources whilethe traditional embedded system cannot afford it. This is solved by Hardwaremanufacturers either upgrading their technology or developing new functioncombination of their products. OMAP is the very one that this article chooses has thecombination function of ARM’s and DSP’s. ARM is to control the application whileDSP processing the decode task of video playing. This article is aim to describe how to design the multimedia player, GPIO interfacedriver and Keyboard drivers based on GPIO under the Windows CE environment.Multimedia player design includes developing of UI, playing control module based onDirectShow and codec filter using Codec Engine. First, article analyzes the functionalprinciple of DirectShow and Codec Engine, customer requirements, then designs thesoftware based on MFC framework. In the second main part of this article, describesdriver’s design method and progress, and then introduces the design details with thepre-analyzed information about the architecture of OMAP platform. After testing theplayer and the device driver, it is proved successful that the video player, GPIO andkeyboard drivers work correctly to meet the requirements.
