Portable Multimedia Player (pmp) Systems Embedded Linux Applications

Nowadays, the market of consume electronics products will be bigger and bigger along with the improvement of people's life; the application of embedded system will be wider. Most of consume electronics products concern video and audio applications, they often deal with more complex tasks by using an operating system. It has been one of the problems to all embedded software engineers in this field that how to apply a suitable operating system to consume electronics products' design.Linux is an open source operating system which is suitable for embedded system, it can process kinds of complex assignments effectively. This thesis explains a method about how to apply embedded Linux to PMP(Portable Multimedia Player) system, which completes the porting procedure of embedded Linux at PMP device by researching and customizing Linux, meanwhile, this method can also be used for other consume electronics products' design.The main jobs of this thesis are: getting Linux source code from open source community, porting it at PMP system and making the device run stably. First, it analyses the design which is based on TI DM320, it includes hardware architecture and software architecture. Then, the thesis researches on embedded system and embedded Linux. Later, it focuses on the porting procedure of Bootloader and embedded Linux kernel at TI DM320 platform. Then, the author designs some PMP device drivers and discusses how to design the device driver which is based on embedded Linux. At last, the thesis introduces the building procedure of developing environment.A criterion of whether a design is successful or not depends on market's reception, there have been two PMPs at the market now which are based on this design, these products get a good reputation for high quality and many useful functions from customers.
