In the field of manufacture, Industrial Computed Tomography (ICT) can getsectional images of the detected object, showing the density distribution, structure andelements, assembly condition and flaw distribution of the detected objects. Large ICTvisualization technology displays test data intuitively through a variety of graphic,image, three-dimensional technology. Based on this technology, detection of cracks,pores, pinholes and inclusions and other defects of the workpiece is complished as wellas the measurement of thickness and density.Meeting the requirements of the engineering applications of3D visualization oflarge-scale ICT, this study is based on the Open Inventor, a3D visualization applicationsystem. Firstly,3D data visualization is introduced; the basic concepts of Open Inventorand its application in3D visualization are explained; basic algorithm of3Dreconstruction of based on ICT is illustrated. Through a comparative analysis,reconstruction of model using optimized methods was studied, including mesh end facerepair, end face filling, mesh smoothing, mesh simplification, and finally a STL file wasobtained.On the basis of analyzing the functional requirements the software, developmentprocess of3D visualization software was gained. And then function module of3Dvisualization software system based on Open Inventor was defined. In the meantime,the development platform was introduced in detail and requirements andimplementation of individual module are analyzed.Secondly, a brief introduction of theory and application method of Open Inventor,a3D visualization tool, was conducted, including its component librariesand tree class.The focus is on the design and application of Open Inventor, a3D visualization softwaresystem. Then, specific procedures of function implementation were studied, includingrotation, scaling, combined sectional view, the bounding box, etc.Finally, experimental results demonstrated the key functions of the system, such asimage format conversion, image pre-processing technology,3D visualization. Aconclusion is drawn by putting forward development direction of3D displaysystems.Pictures gained by ICT scanning when reconstructed by usingthree-dimensional image techniques, displayed by self-developed3D visualizationsoftware system, enables the engineering staff to observe from various angles, thus enhance application and judgment of the project. Engineering staff can not only scaleand rotate the model, but also execute sectional view, local feature observation.Moreover, other functions can be developed later on, such as virtual endoscopic,three-dimensional measurement, which will greatly reduce the word of engineering staff,promote the level of modernization of automation in industry.
