This paper takes the Chinese society entered a period of high incidence ofcontradiction as a background, and the specialization of the modern media society andintellectuals as point of penetration to analyze whether media intellectuals-mediapractitioners can use the public platform of media, as well as the inherent advantageof their career to concern public issues and public interest to achieve “public nature”with their intellectual sense of responsibility, conscience and critical reflections.Therefore, this paper selects Chen yang who is local well-known mediapractitioners in Guangzhou as an object to analyze his public concern aboutGuangzhou city and indigenous affairs, in the hope of gaining some inspiration ofmedia intellectuals realize public concerns from this typical character.This paper first sorts out the background of the intellectuals, make the concept ofmedia intellectuals clear, and define the identity of Chen Yang. Second, Chen Yang’spublic concern which is in his special column was chosen as a text analysis object,and his public concern characters are also summarized. Third, the reason for ChenYang’s public concern and its characters are summarized and analyzed. In the end, thepublic concern of media intellectuals is summarized and thought. In addition to that,the possibilities and ways for media practitioners to realize their public concern intheir career plateau are also discussed. In the conclusion, the writer briefly evaluatesthe source of Chen Yang’s public concern as a media intellectual-the spirit ofintellectuals, and points out that it is the spirit that intellectuals should have in moderntimes.
