In respect of missile guidance, infrared imaging guidance is one of the most important precision guidance technologies. It captures the whole infrared radiation characteristics as its guidance information. It has much more information and more powerful antidistubance capability than traditional infrared guidance and many countries are in competion of studying infrared image guidance technology. There are wide requirements of creating infrared image in many producing steps of weapon which is controlled and guided by infrared image, especially in the testing and evaluation steps. Now there are tow ways to get infrared image. One is to do a large number of flying experiments and test the number, but it is difficult because of the environments can not be controlled. The other is to do theoretical calculation by computer and it becomes a very important study in the infrared image simulation. According to this requirement, the technology of using computer to generate infrared images is initially discussed in this paper.The paper treats the aircraft as the research object. At first, analyzing and computing the infrared radiation of target and background from the theories, and the various influence of target and background’s infrared radiation which included the infrared radiation source, the infrared radiation laws, characteristic radiation of target, infrared radiation reduce by atmosphere etc, have been presented. The models of the radiation from the nuzzle of the turbojet engine and exhaust gases and skin of the aircraft is built and calculated. The skin’s Heat balance equations take into account the synthetic influence factor of the real configuration of object, sun radiation and the environment radiation around object. The sun radiation includes direct irradiance and the sky and ground’s scattering irradiance. After that the creating processes of infrared picture have been introduced in detail. First, the geometric model of the aircraft skin is built up with a grid. Second, the aircraft skin infrared radiation data is transferred from three-dimensional to two-dimensional by projecting. The temperature distribution and infrared images of the aircraft are generated at various angles. The aircraft skin infrared radiance is described as a grey image.The research in the paper plays an important role on IR imaging guidance simulation work and it provides an effective method for the development and evaluation of infrared imaging guidance weapons. The research methods and key technology in this paper are valuable for the future research on simulation of target’s Infrared radiation images.
