With the rapid development of society and economy in our country, more and more rural labor forces are swarming into the city. And a prominent feature of the population movement in recent years has been the family migration, all the family members move to the city. So the children of these migrant workers in cities, have formed a new and special social group-the "migrant students". As the government is paying more and more attention to the education of the migrant students, a series of laws and regulations has been produced to ensure these students to enjoy the rights of education. Some of the migrant students can also entering urban public schools just like city students. However, after these rural students stepping into a better school-city school, can they really obtain the equal education compared with the local city students, and whether they can gain the same opportunity to get higher academic achievements?On the basis of analysis of the previous studies on academic achievements at home and abroad, the author takes a brief summary on the social capital theory, and points out its application in this study. In order to find the performance of the students’academic achievement and the influence of social capital on the academic achievement, the questionnaire and interview outline are designed with the title of "A Questionnaire on Middle School Students’ Academic Achievement and Its Influence Factors". Takes Chongqing city as an example, this study first analyzes and compare the five aspects of academic achievements between migrant students and city students, these aspects are curriculum scores, learning ability, learning habits, learning motivation and learning after class teaching. Then explore the causes of differences in academic achievement among these two different groups of students, and find which aspects of social capital have an influence on the academic achievement, and how much the influence is. Finally, some methods and suggestions are given to the government, migrant family, school, community and migrant students themselves. These suggestions aim at how to increase social capital in order to improve migrant students’ academic achievements.
