Research On Migrant Children’s Choice Of Way Out With A Social Capital Perspective

With expansion of migrant populat ion in urban, there is a substantial increase in the number of migrant children. Under the household registration system(Hukou) based policy restrictions, migrant children in cities like Beijing are facing many insurmountable institutional barriers. Problems faced by migrant children have caused concern of the government、scholar and community. There are numerous studies of this population, such as education for migrant children, the study of the flow of the socializat ion of children, migrant children ’s social int egration and exclusion, social interaction, urban adaptation of migrant children, protecting the rights of migrant children, migrant children ident ity, health status of migrant children, migrant children social support networks,etc. Previous studies were mostly from the perspective of the social system to explore issues related to mobile groups of children, which is a macro perspective.This study focuses on these children and family themselves,aims to enhance their subjectivity in the way selection process and to improve their passivity to respond to the plight of the environment in search of a better and further development with social capital they own.In this paper, the basic research paradigm is qualitative. And through deep interview, to figure out how the process of find a way out is,and their actual experience at this stage of their comprehensive and understanding,simultaneously, analyzing of the condition of social capit al, as well as the operation and significance during migrant children in the way-selection process. This study found that in the way selecting process migrant children or their family lack of planning, passivity and purpose; social capital within fam ily is the most important for children, also it plays a decisive role in the way selection;external social capit al for the development of migrant children are of great signif icance, but it is inadequate in fact. Overall, the long-term development of mobile groups of children is still worth concern, the strength and support of the community to care about development of migrant children is needed.
