A new round of curriculum reform of compulsory education in china clearly put forward that the most important task of English teaching is to inspire and cultivate the students’interest in learning. So, stimulating students’interest in learning is the starting point and the foothold of teaching. Game’is the nature of children and it is closely linked with the teaching, which has a certain educational function. The core of this paper is how to develop the game teaching in English teaching and how to use teaching playfulness to arouse the students’interest.The introduction firstly expounds the reasons of selecting this paper that requirement of English New Curriculum Standards of primary school, present situation of English teaching and the relationship between teaching and game. Then, we carry out an overall analysis and review on relationship between teaching and game and teaching playfulness:the research on relationship between teaching and game has a long history and systematic research began in the German educator Frew Bell. After that, children educator Montessori, pragmatism educator Dewey and Chinese children educator Mr. Chen Heqin have made great contribution to it. Nowadays, focusing on the playfulness is the tendency of research, and this paper tries to make some attempts on the basis of previous research.The first chapter is the external theory analysis of teaching playfulness:the teaching playfulness has theoretical significance and practical value; the teaching playfulness is possible because teaching has playfulness; the teaching playfulness is necessary because the game has educational function. Therefore, the application of game and playfulness in the primary school is no doubt. The second chapter is also the theoretical analysis of basic principle and outstanding characteristics of teaching playfulness.The third chapter and the fourth are the core of this paper. We further the situation of English teaching of primary school to understand the application of teaching playfulness by participatory classroom observation, literature review and case analysis. Then, we analyze its advantages and disadvantages and try to give some reasonable explanation. At the end of this paper, we put forward some implementation strategies by combining the excellent teaching cases with game activities and playfulness spirit.
