Individual businesses are an integral part of the socialist market economy. As a large scalegroup in the modern society who are operating business legally in the commodities markets,they stimulate employment, enliven the market and boost the development of the urbaneconomy effectively in hope of making great contribution to daily lives of people and theregions’ economic development. Among these individual businesses, there also exist someindividuals and families who do trans-provincial businesses. Since they do business in differentprovinces, they would meet challenges brought by various factors such as the differences insocial system and geographic differences, etc. And they also explore the paths for their owndevelopment in the intense market competition. The research objects in this paper areindividual businesses from other provinces who have dual identities, namely, people from otherprovinces and individual businesses. The study on their integrating situation into the society isnot only beneficial to improvements of the living standards of these individual businesses fromother provinces, but also provides ideas for the development of the whole individual industryand commerce.Social integration refers to the financial, social and psychological integration achievedthrough the financial, behavior, cultural and conception integration into the local main streamsocial system. In this research, the concept of social integration will be adopted to analyze thesocial integration situation of the migrant private business owners, find out the hardships andfactor that prevent them from integrating and come up with relevant reflections andsuggestions based on the local migrant private business owners. Qualitative methods areadopted in this study. The research objects are fifteen individual businesses who engage in thewholesales and retails of commodities such as clothing, shoes and hats, bags and suitcases,accessories stationery and so on. All of them are from rural areas of Zhejiang and are doingindividual business in Jinan.In this paper, the integrating situation of individual businesses from other provinces intothe local society is analyzed from four aspects, namely, the economy, the culture, the societyand the psychology. These four aspects are in a coexistent and progressive relation. Meanwhile, they also influence each other. According to the investigations, this group of people not onlyhave to overcome all kinds of restrictions brought by features of the individual operation as anoccupation, but also have to face up to the problems caused by differences in the social systemand the environment since they are from other places. As a result, their integrating situationinto the local society is limited to the economic and culture level.On the basis above, this paper makes an analysis on the factors which influenced theintegrating situation of individual businesses from other provinces into the local society fromfour aspects, namely, the system, the society, the region and the individual. Furthermore, anumber of measures are put forward to promote the integrating of individual businesses fromother provinces into the local society in this paper. These measures are beneficial to thecombination of the individual operation and the lives of individual businesses from otherprovinces, so as to promote the integrating situation of the individual businesses from otherprovinces into the local society and boost the development of the individual industry andcommerce and social stability.On the basis of the integrating situation of individual businesses from other provinces intothe local society and its diversity and selectivity, it is shown that there lies no differencebetween the individual businesses from other provinces and the local residents in view offinancial earnings, the social security and some other aspects. They also learn fresh things inthe local region all the time while preserving traditions and features of their own culture.However, they seldom carry on in-depth exchanges with the local people, and are in a passivestate in the social activities and organizations. Moreover, in view of their identifications in thelocal region, they are not quite confident, and are mentally keep the local residents at adistance.The innovation of this study lies in that this paper choose the individual businesses fromthe other provinces as the research objects in hope of finding out otherness characteristicshighlighted during their integrating situation into the local society as floating populations andputting forward the related proposals. Moreover, it is a brilliant way to bring the issues into thedaily lives of people to conduct studies on various aspects concerning the floating populationssuch as the language, the culture and the living habits in view of the differences between theNortherners and the Southerners.
