Quality education requires the students to grasp language well and use it freely. Itrequires the teacher to use the TBL model to lead the teaching and let the students get thelanguage knowledge and practice ability through the tasks which are designed carefully andcontrolled well by the teacher. Its purpose is to train the students to use the language well andlove language. But in fact, it is hard for our teachers to carry out TBL in each teaching process,let alone to get good achievements. Speaking is the most difficult among the four skills. Boththe students and the teachers are often confused. In this thesis, the author tries to obey thefeatures of TBL in oral English class, combing the students’ current situation in rural areas tostudy how to train their ability of speaking and communication to form the effectiveassessment so that we teachers can practice the theory of quality education.It is veryimportant for the reform of our English course.Based on these theories, the author of thisthesis takes the students who are in Grade8as the study subjects from a rural middle school.At the same time the author tries to study the assessment,especially on the application of theformative assessment in oral English class and tries to make the formative assessmentthroughout the task-based teaching process. The thesis also explores how to carry outassessment in oral English teaching in rural middle school and analyze experimental resultsand try to prove it is effective for the students’ oral English and communication. At last,theauthor tries to prove that carrying out the assessment in oral English class in rural middleschool is necessary, reasonable and feasible.
