With speeding up of social development and urbanization, people have more needs for high-quality education. Both rural family and urban family hope that their children can get better education. This leads to that large class quota is very common in elementary schools and middle schools in city. China has stated clearly that "eliminate large class quota step by step and advocate small class teaching" in "Outline of National Education Reform and Development for Middle and Long term". But due to several current restriction factors such as unbalanced distribution of education resources and lack of teacher resources in elementary/middle schools etc., phenomenon of large class quota will not disappear in short time. Besides, in class environment of large class quota, seat is a special kind of education resources which affects study and mental/physical development of students and class teaching quality. So how to arrange the seats reasonably has attracted the attention of more and more scholars and experts of both China and foreign countries in recent years.Although there are many kinds of seat arrangement in foreign countries, purpose of this paper is to find several seat arrangements suitable for Chinese background of large class quota, and discuss how to improve studying motivation of students greatly through different seat arrangements. After survey of current situation of seat arrangement for large class quota in several middles schools in Yangzhou, this paper performs action research in Gongdao Middle School in Yangzhou, combines different seat arrangements suitable for large class quota environment and teaching methods of teachers, makes analysis and solution to occurring problems during action research, so as to discover the changes of students in studying and mental/physical development.At first this paper illustrates the development and special characteristics of large class quota teaching in China; then demonstrates the4theory foundations guiding this research: humanistic education theory, education equity theory, interaction theory and subject education theory. Under the theory guidance, this paper analyzes the importance of seat arrangement for large class quota in middle school; besides, according to survey of student quantity in class, teacher-student interaction situation and backline phenomenon in class, based on survey data, this paper describes the current situation of seat arrangement for large class quota in middle schools of Yangzhou; performs action research to Gongdao Middle School aiming at existing problems, and makes summary and analysis to research results. At last, this paper provides several suggestions for seat arrangement for large class quota in middle schools.
