The New Curriculum Reform is a profound educational reform in the history of China’s education and teaching, which requires radically changed the existing concepts and ways of education and teaching, and brings unprecedented impact and challenges for both teachers and students. No one including new concepts, new teaching materials, new content, new evaluation, new approach, new teaching relationship, hasn’t violent conflict and collision with the traditional concept of teaching and the old teaching modes, which naturally affects the adaptability of teachers and students to the new curriculum reform and has a stronger influence on the rural areas where education is backward to some degree and the education resources are comparatively wretched.Therefore, in order to understand the adaptability of rural senior English teachers to the new curriculum in Hunan Province, and provide some reference for the implementation of New Curriculum which make it go more smoothly and avoid detours in the future, by the investigation to the teaching of three rural senior school in Li County of Hunan Province, the purposes of this paper is to understand their difference between teaching situation and the English Curriculum Standard of Ordinary Senior School and problems in the implementation of New Curriculum, analyze the causes of the problem, and put forward the strategies which can enhance the adaptability of rural senior English teachers to the new curriculum.Five chapters are incorporated in this paper:Chapter one is the introduction. In this chapter an overview of the origin, purpose and significance of this research are mentioned; and then, the paper sorts out the existing document to understand the basic situation of the current studies, the significance of the available research on this paper as well as the lack of existing research; what’s more, the paper also defines some relative concepts; at last, the paper give a brief description of the content, methods and innovations of the research.Chapter two is the theory. By analyzing this chapter discusses briefly the requirements as it ought to be of the English Curriculum Standard of Ordinary Senior School to the teachers in several aspects including the teaching concepts, teaching methods, evaluation methods and teaching content.Chapter three is the design, the investigation and analysis of the study. This chapter first describes the purposes, the selection of the sample and methods; and then by the questionnaires to the teachers and students with the data and information of the interviews and classroom observation, the chapter adopts descriptive statistics and statistical inferences with SPSS11.5and gives a brief analysis.Chapter four is the main problems and the reasons. This chapter organizes the information from the interview and classroom observation and takes a deeper analysis, for which this chapter finds that there are following problems including transformation of teaching concepts formalized, teaching methods dogmatized and teaching relationship implicitized when rural senior English teachers adapt to New Curriculum and then the chapter contrasts the requirements as it ought to be of New Curriculum to the teachers with the requirements as it is in five aspects including teaching concept, teaching content, teaching methods, teaching evaluation and teaching relationship. At last, this chapter analyzes the gap between them is caused by some reasons such as teacher’s misunderstand to New Curriculum, the constraints of teachers’own qualities, the restrictions of daily life to the teachers, paradox in teachers’ training, college entrance examination reform lagging behind the curriculum reform and the constraints of traditional culture and so on.Chapter five is the strategies and proposals. This chapter thinks carefully about the problems and reasons which is expressed in the process when rural senior English teachers adapt to New Curriculum, trying to put forward some recommendations to improve the adaptability of the teachers for reference that teachers should understand more deeply and practice the basic concept of New Curriculum, teachers should try to improve the level of teachers’ professional development, schools should create a positive campus culture, strengthen pre-service and in-service training and hold on school-based training, college entrance examination goes on in parallel with curriculum reform as well as create a social atmosphere to benefit the implementation of New Curriculum.
