On The Significance Of Teaching Excerpts From "a Dream Of Red Mansions" From The Perspective Of Folk Culture

"A Dream of Red Mansions" is considered the encyclopedia of the Chinese feudal society, and it can be found in different versions of high school textbooks of Chinese. However, it is a pity that the traditional Chinese classroom teaching lay less emphasis on the national spirits and cultural intensions in excerpts of "A Dream of Red Mansions". Thus, this paper aims at digging into the excerpts of "A Dream of Red Mansions" in high school textbook, exploring the significance of teaching from the perspective of folk culture and developing students’ historical and cultural awareness.The first chapter introduces the excerpts of "A Dream of Red Mansions" in high school Chinese textbooks, as well as the current main-stream teaching of the excerpts of "A Dream of Red Mansions", from which it can be found that the current teaching situation has not laid enough emphasis on "A Dream of Red Mansions" and the unique literary value involved in it. The second chapter analyzes the folk culture descriptions in the excerpts of "A Dream of Red Mansions", especially the theoretical basis of teaching the excerpts from the perspective of folk culture descriptions. The third chapter discusses the positive effect of teaching the excerpts of " A Dream of Red Mansions" from the perspective of folk culture on students’ mastering the meaning of the excerpts, developing students’ exploratory ability and forming historical and cultural awareness. Hopefully, this paper will serve to arouse teachers’ awareness of the significance of national and folk culture involved in the works in the future classroom teaching.
