Secondary vocational schools play an important role in the vocational educationin China, whose major function is to train skilled workers so as to meet China’ssocialism construction need. In recent years, the enrollment of secondary vocationalschools is increasing; while the employers are also raising their requirements to thevocational school graduates. Under such circumstances, the best vocational educationis needed, which depends mostly on the best teachers, especially those practicaltraining teachers with abundant experiences.At present, we have to notice that there are some shortages in the professionalcompetence of many practical training teachers in China. And there are also somedifficulties in retraining them. In this paper, the writer listed some current situationand advanced management experiences abroad. After collecting the results of aquestionnaire to the practical training teachers in several typical secondary vocationalschools in this region, the writer got some meaningful data by means of classifying,summarizing, computing and tabulating those results. The data showed some basicinformation as well as the professional competence of those teachers who had beeninvestigated. Using the data, the writer analyzed the problems existed in thecompetence of China’s practical training teachers and the causes of the problems.Combing practical working experiences, she summarized and analyzed the qualityand competence a practical training teacher should have and some elements whichcould affect the professional ability of a training teacher as well. After that, sheraised some suggestions on how to improve the competence of our practical trainingteachers, including to set oriented policy, to perfect related laws, to strictly examinethe qualifications of the training teachers to be employed, to make sure all theteachers could be retrained, to improve the encouragement system, to establish properjudging system and so on. By using various methods, the competence of the practicaltraining teacher in secondary vocational schools could be improved on one hand; onthe other hand, their moral quality could also be improved.
