The State University Student Affairs Management Research

As the important part of university management, student affairsadministration has an indispensable affect to the operation anddevelopment of university. Because of its efficient student affairsadministration,the quality and the scale of American higher educationbecome the word’s leading.State university is the largest size inAmerican university,so its student affairs administration have typicalsignificance.With the development of American state university, studentaffairs administration form a more complete system about learningcounseling, living services and career guidance.It has an importantmeaning for us to study the American state university students’affairsadministration because student affairs administration now in Chineseuniversities is in the transition period that from student management tostudent services,and the experience of American state universitystudent affairs administration has important reference value to us.The article has selected three universities as the targets, that is, theMichigan State University, the Wyoming University and the Indiana StateUniversity. The methods of literature research, comparative researchand case research are used for studying ideas and objectives,organization structures and actual operation of student affairsadministration in American higher education.The research has found that the student affairs administration ofAmerican state university focuses on‘student-centered’ and‘whole-person developing’ of students idea.It have built students highquality learning environment and provided humane services andsupports. The organization structures of the student affairs administrationin American state university are flattening and strip running.Everydepartment is set independently, the function of which is clear includedadmission, registration, consulting services, medical services, accommodation services, student activities, scholarship andoccupational counseling, etc. Staff job designed according to theposition’s requirements,and the staff are always have high degree ofspecialization.
