On The View To Student Of American College Student Affairs Administration

The student affairs administration is of great importance in the higher education. The theory, function and system of American college student affairs administration, as a professional field with extreme practicality, are improving gradually with the progress of massification and marketization of higher education. With the tendency of China's higher education transforming from elite education to mass education, the student administration is facing a new demand and challenge. And "the view to students" is the key point of studying American college student affairs administration, which is the object of this thesis. The research on American college student affairs administration is not only a very good try, but also offers a new perspective for reforming Chinese students administration.By analyzing the historical development of American college student affairs administration based on studying concrete practices and typical classics, the thesis focuses on analyzing core features of American student affairs administration and their influences, and then probes into the factor's formation in order to strive to find the connotation and value orientation of "the view to students" of American student affairs administration systematically. This paper is made up of four chapters, which are divided into three parts.Chapter one is the first part and the introduction of this thesis, whose main aim is to explain the problems, meanings, basis, thought and method of research and so on.Chapters two and three are the second part and key content. First of all , it investigates the historical development and the present situation of American college student affairs administration, with more emphasis on developing stages, institutional framework , main functions and professional development, etc; Secondly, on the basis of analyzing historical development and present situation and typical classics of American college students affairs administration, it defines core features of "the view to students" of student affairs administration such as freedom, autonomy and equality; Moreover, it analyzes how "the view to students" influences practices of the student affairs administration; Finally, it probes into the formation of the factors of "the view to students", concluding that "the view to students" is not only influenced by politics, economy and culture of the American societies, but also supported and guaranteed by the law.Chapter four is the third part which firstly analyzes the difference of student administration between China and America from the comparative perspective, and then suggests some implications to Chinese student administration's reformation based on the second part.
