The emergence of the medieval universities in Western Europe is the mostsignificant innovation of system and conception in education area of that time. In theconditions of church control, the university teaching still able to burst out of thescience thoughts, which is quite rare. The debate teaching is the characteristics of themedieval university in Western Europe. Take Debate and discussion as teachingmethods, not only in favor of grasp and understand knowledge, but also contribute tothe use and practice. This teaching method at the basis of logic, rhetoric, psychologycould promote the development of critical thinking. The debate teaching method wereprovide a new means of teaching as well as put a new model for talent frosted. Todayour university also needs to reform and improve, therefore, learn from the historywisdom is necessary. The debate teaching method would be the useful reference fornowadays high education to find a way to cultivate the intelligence students.The paper divided into six parts: the first part is the introduction on the purposeand significance of research, analyze and list the corresponding research aboutChinese and foreign country and make a definition of some important words. Thesecond part explores the purpose and principles of debate teaching. Firstly, the mainpurpose is to meets the needs of the community people, like lawyers and philosophers.Secondly, the principles of debate teaching are focus on four aspects. It not onlyinclude the rational and speculative, criticism and questioning, but also the lectureand debate, study and practice.The third part elaborate on the teaching contents. Thecourses distribute to two kinds in medieval university according to the different level.The courses determined the teaching methods and the debate teaching has been ableto developed in university depends on the logic and dialectic. The key content of thearticle is focus on fourth part. In this section, the author to describe the two debateteaching mode includes the lecture-argument mode and debate mode. The first mode is divided into lectures-discussion type, reread-discussion and Q-A dialogue type.The second mode embraces the student’s debate, the teacher’s debate and the debatebetween teachers and students. The fifth part concerned about debate for the diploma.There are three kinds of degree in the medieval university, bachelor, master and Ph.D.Each one needs different debate. The last part is the reflection and revelation. Tocontrast with our ancient academy debate teaching, conclude that debate teaching hasbeen played a very important role in both east and west education, and continue toimpact modern western education but lost in our country. Therefore, we shouldrecognize this point and to rediscover its value so that may help to cultivate our owninnovative students.
