With the development of our country’s education, the requirements of students’ all-rounddevelopment are higher and higher. As a special group of students, the slow learners’development should draw more attention. The New Curriculum Standards point out that Englishmust face to all the students, and teachers should pay attention to the quality education. So in theprocess of teaching, teachers should face to all the students to set up a foundation for theirall-round development. At present, there are many slow learners in English teaching of juniorhigh school. How to help the slow learners transform is placed in front of all English teachers ofjunior high school. This thesis, based on the Constructivism Theory and the Learning Belief Theory, takes100junior high school slow learners from Younger English Training School of Yan Zhou as subjects, using case analysis, interview and questionnaire survey to find out the reasons that cause theslow learners to have difficulty in learning. From the results, we find that being lack of Englishlearning motivation, having improper learning methods, weak will and low self-efficacy are themain reasons, and the improper teaching methods of English teachers also add to the difficultiesof these students’ English learning.Based on the results of analyzing different reasons, the writer makes a research ontransforming different kinds of the slow learners. For example, as for the students whose Englishlearning motivation is weak, the writer helps them to set up learning objects and stimulate theirlearning interests, and as for other kinds of the slow learners, the writer also takes differentapproaches to transform them. After half a year’s survey, it is found that the situation of the slowlearners who take part in the case study has changed. The differences between pre-survey andpost-survey are shown in three aspects: their grades have been improved in varying degrees;their negative learning beliefs have been improved to a certain extent; their self-efficacy also hasbeen improved. Then the thesis gives some suggestions to the junior high school Englishteaching: teachers should cultivate the slow learners’ good learning habits; they should establisha good relationship with the slow learners; they should use different approaches, make full use ofmultimedia teaching means, and carry out their teaching approaches according to the students’aptitude. The thesis consists of six chapters: Chapter one is the introduction which simply introducesthe background, goals, significance and hypothesis of the study. Chapter two reviews researcheson the slow learners, including the research situation at home and abroad. It also expounds the theoretical basis of this thesis.
