Researches on senior high school slow learners have got started. However, in the author's opinion, they are concerned more about individual learners'factors, instead of the influence of teachers' efforts, such as the means, modes, and methods of teachers' innovation in teaching, let alone the mode of practice, reflection, and improvement. Based on this understanding, this research aims at exploring a better approach to improve the English learning of high school slow learners through action research, in an effort to provide help for teachers of English in dealing with slow learners. It is hoped that this research will start further discussions on a combination of theory and practice in this field of study and the non-intelligence factors can be taken into account by researchers in their research in this field. In my paper I have attempted to apply non-intelligence factors to my English teaching practice. For this purpose, I have chosen 30 slow learners of English from the two classes I teach and have conducted a study in a whole year. Data collection and analysis include written surveys, face-to-face interview and behavior observations in classroom activities. By comparing what they do before the program with what they do afterwards, I reflect the efforts I have made, that is, whether the students will make gradual progress in English learning. Based on this, I have continued my practice to prove the efficiency of the result of my first practice. The screw type method contributes a lot to the improvement of the slow learners'efficiency as well as my teaching process. The results of this research demonstrate that it is feasible and effective to improve the achievements of the slow learners through action research. They are also enabled to experience joy of success after their curiosity is aroused; meanwhile, their powerful internal motivation is maintained. As time goes on, they will surely benefit a lot from this pedagogical implication in their studies and growth. This thesis consists of 6 chapters:Chapter One is the introduction. Chapter Two is the literature review involving the related research at home and abroad and the comment on their views. Chapter Three presents the theoretical basis for this research. Chapter Four analyzes the current situation and problems of slow learners in English. Chapter Five is an experiment in which action research is performed. Chapter Six is the conclusion.
