Teaching of classical poetry is an important part of the Chinese reading instruction. It plays an important role in developing students’ language literacy, aesthetic taste, and national feelings, but the status of classical poetry teaching in high school is worrying. Although the language teaching profession is filled with numerous improved methods of classical poetry teaching, they did not make the classical poetry teaching in high school out of the embarrassing situation, which is cold, high-consuming and inefficient. The author was inspired by "close-reading on text", which is paid attention from the literary world and Chinese teachers, and believed that "close-reading on text", a fundamental way to getting out of the woods, offers a new vision for classical poetry teaching in high school.This thesis consists of five parts:The first part is an overview of the research, including the definition of the core concepts, the reason and meaning of the research, the review of research about "close-reading on text" and classical poetry teaching in high school, and the main research methods.The second part is students’learning status of the classical poetry in high school and analysis of the causes. According to students in high school, they have weak interest in learning, materialistic purpose, limited accumulation, and difficulties in understanding. From the perspective of teachers, they have materialistic purpose in teaching, wrong understanding of the new curriculum standards, the inadequate ability in reading comprehension. The fundamental way to solve these problems is establishing the teachers’awareness of the micro-perspective appreciation on a classical poetry text and enhancing the ability to appreciate a classical poetry text. All of these determined that "close-reading on text" is the practical needs of classical poetry teaching in high school.The third part proves that "close-reading on text" is the way out of the plight of classical poetry teaching in high school on theoretical basis and practical significance. Based on the Chinese and Western experience of "close-reading", the thesis pointed out the characteristics and content of "close-reading" in the teaching context. Then, from the perspective of theoretical requirements,"close-reading" meets the demands of literature and pedagogy. From the perspective of practical significance,"close-reading" unified analysis of details and grasp of overall; It unified students’interest, ability and accumulation; It also unified teachers’reachment of the new curriculum standards and enhancement of literary accomplishment. All of these proved that "close-reading on text" can help classical poetry teaching in high school get out of the plight.The fourth part is the focus of the paper, the author attempts to establish a system for the application of "close-reading" for classical poetry teaching in high school. In the application of "close-reading", teachers must go through three stages of sharpening during lesson planning, including "private read facing to the poetry—absorbing study read—read for teaching". In the teaching process, teachers should guide students to read and appreciate classical poetry from three levels:language, imagery and mood, the form. Reduction, comparative, challenge, borrowed from "close-reading",are specific methods for applying "close-reading on text". In the classroom, teachers should also follow some principles to guarantee the effective application of "close-reading" in classical poetry teaching, just as:"explan details, emphasizing association and imagination","create situations, focusing on activating experience", and" step-by-step,from’help’to’free hand’".The last part summarizes the conclusions of this paper, and point some precautions which should be paid attention by teachers.In short, this paper has paid attention to interpretation and construction of the theory, and it also pays attention to illustrate the problem by particle cases. The paper makes a close connection with the theory and practice, expecting that it will play a role for classical poetry teaching in high school.
