Based on the framework of the national elementary education curriculum, e.g. level-3 curriculum management, the development and research of school-based textbooks have become a hotspot or a direction. It is better for ethnic minority areas of China to develop School-based textbooks, which can be suitable to the social development trend of the ethnic minority, perform the level-3 curriculum management policies, use the curriculum resources, train and develop students’character. Therefore, the research holds that among the abundance cultural resources of minority areas, the natural, traditional and national education resources can be integrated into the school-based textbooks effectively and efficiently through cultural selection theory.With the related theory of cultural selection, the thesis mainly adopts the methods of field research and NVIVO 9.0 text analysis software for data collection, collation, etc. of school-based textbooks. Field survey visit is conducted in Guizhou Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture in investigation. And author extracts two school-based textbooks of two schools as the research samples.By the Discrimination and discussion of the concepts and theories of cultural selection, author takes the suitable interpretation of the school-based textbooks in ethnic minority areas in view of cultural selection modern template, three-dimensional, and power systems:subject, purpose, standard and evaluation, which is regarded as the basis for analyzing the textbooks.In this study, after obtaining analysis results by using NVIVO 9.0 qualitative analysis software, we can deconstruct the school-based textbooks into four major sections in their content property:vital culture, secular culture, artistic culture and scientific culture. In the perspective of the educational transmission, the text content of school-based textbooks can deconstructed into three dimensionalities, such as history, reality, and mind, which reveals the fact that the school-based textbooks of ethnic minority regions choose culture in different level.Based on the analysis of the text content, the study explores the text generation process. Namely researcher does a relevant, developing and dynamic research about the compiling of textbooks. Through researching the compiling process of two samples in four aspects of subject, purpose, standards and evaluation, author considers subject can be divided into three important subjects, for example decision maker, implementer and researcher, and points out that the objects of cultural selection are achieving the national identity, ethnic identity and group identity. Then researcher established the basic principles and standards of cultural selection in the internal and external factors, e.g. scientificity, learnability, interestingness, structural rationality and content relevance. Lastly, sum up some evaluation means of school-based textbooks development from the meaning, scope and steps in ethnic minority areas.In view of the status of the development of school-based textbooks in minority areas, author thinks that the textbooks development should adapt to the social status quo, take full advantage of the educational resources of the ethnic minority regions, fully reflect the school characteristics and promote the ultimate development of the students. Based on the four aspects above, the study constructs the starting point of the development of school-based textbooks to offer ideas and lessons for school-based textbooks in minority areas.
