The development and wide popularization of Internet technology has greatly promoted the innovation of interpersonal communication. People from different regions are closely connected through the network. At the same time, their scales of association have also expended from traditional circles limited within daily life and work to worldwide communication. SNS, a new online socializing platform has gained popularity and active participation among university students. On one hand, as a type of convenient and effective activity space and occasion for interpersonal communication, SNS has created beneficial environment for college students to enlarge their social interaction and satisfied their affection needs. On the other hand, the great attractions brought by the Internet on young college students have also exerted some side effects: some students are addicted to the networks and treat networks as a place for escapement from reality and life stress. As a result, negative influences have appeared such as the alienation from reality in interpersonal communication. Therefore, a reasonable and comprehensive attitude towards SNS should be built up that positive and negative influences co-exist. This attitude will be beneficial in making a scientific outlook in interpersonal communication in network era. This is the major purpose of this paper.This paper collects materials by questionnaire survey and makes analysis of the results from the questionnaire through the method of statistics, for the purpose of a good command of the positive and negative influences of SNS on the interpersonal communication of college students.This paper is composed of five parts:the first part gives an introduction of the research background, research status at home and abroad and the research methods and innovation in this paper. The second part mainly introduces the concept of SNS, the current development of SNS at home and abroad and its characteristics and process in interpersonal communication. The third part describes the basic condition of the survey, the analysis and the final conclusion from the design of the questionnaire, the survey condition, the statistic condition and the reliability and validity of samples. This part is based on the survey of Renren as an example to investigate the influence of SNS on college students’social communication. The fifth part proposes how to standardize and guarantee the healthy development of interpersonal communication among college students under the background of networks, from such perspectives as society, universities, SNS and college students themselves.
